The Mezcal Margarita

Mezcal is a favorite around here, so we take any chance we can to enjoy a great mezcal. Recently, we’ve been enjoying Madre—for it’s flavor, design, and approach to the world.

This Mezcal Margarita is a family favorite and designed by my (Levi’s) wife, Hillary, who is a Natural Food Chef.

Mezcal Margarita

1.5oz Reposado Tequila
.5oz Ancho Reyes
1 oz Madre Mezcal (or you favorite Mezcal)
1oz Lime Juice
.25-5oz Organic Agave Nectar

Alternative: If you like spicy cocktails, like I do, you can also let a jalapeño “steep” in the tequila for up to 15 minutes. Remove the jalapeño from the tequila and proceed as normal.

We always add a few drops of salt to help bring balance to the agave and alcohol. You can use more/less agave depending on how sweet you like your cocktail, or how stiff you want it to be.

Shake in a cocktail shaker for 30-45 seconds. Pour over Ice and serve with a lime wedge. You can salt the rim, if desired, otherwise, you’re set to go!
